What is Panel Mount?
Definition of panel mount
Panel mount is a mechanical feature or features built into the design of a connector half. It allows the connector to be secured to an equipment panel, external case or enclosure. Often (but not always), connectors fitted with panel mount features will be cable connectors.
What are the advantages of panel mount?
- By having the connector attached to the panel, there is no external strain on the electrical connections on the back of the connector. This will lower the risk of failure and improve the life of your device
- You can safely allow untrained users to connect and disconnect cables – think of the connections in the back of your PC, these are all panel mount
- It’s also possible to design whole modules as replaceable items in smaller enclosures, and keep the devices inside each box safe from tampering.
TPC Wire & Cable Acquires Hydro Group
TPC Wire & Cable recently announced that it has completed the acquisition of Hydro Group, a global provider of custom subsea connectivity solutions. Based in Aberdeen Scotland, Hydro specializes in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of subsea connectivity products widely used in the oil & gas, marine, renewable energy, and defense industries.

Schneider Electric to Invest $140 Million in 2024 to Expand U.S. Manufacturing Presence to Support Critical Infrastructure, Industries, and Data Center Demand
Recently, Schneider Electric announced plans to invest $140 million into its U.S. manufacturing operations and create about 750 new manufacturing jobs across the country in 2024. The company will invest $85 million initially to transform and equip an existing 500,000 square foot building in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and upgrade its existing Smyrna, Tennessee manufacturing operations. Both locations will manufacture custom electrical switchgear and medium voltage power distribution products to bolster support for critical infrastructure, industries, and the escalating demand for data center solutions across the U.S.

Legrand Acquires ZPE Systems Inc., a Data Center, Branch, and Edge Management Infrastructure Company
Legrand has recently announced its acquisition is complete of ZPE Systems, Inc., a Fremont, California-based company that offers critical solutions and services to deliver resilience and security for customers’ business critical infrastructure. This includes serial console servers, sensors, and services routers that enable remote access and management of network IT equipment from data centers to the edge. The acquisition brings together ZPE’s secure and open management infrastructure and services delivery platform for data center, branch, and edge environments to Legrand’s comprehensive data center solutions of overhead busway, custom cabinets, intelligent PDUs, KVM switches, and advanced fiber solutions.

Siemens: SIMOVAC Non-Arc-Resistant and SIMOVAC-AR Arc-Resistant Motor Controllers
The Siemens SIMOVAC medium-voltage non-arc-resistant and SIMOVAC-AR arc-resistant controllers have a modular design incorporating up to two 12SVC400 (400 A) controllers, housed in a freestanding sheet steel enclosure. Each controller is UL 347 class E2, equipped with three current-limiting fuses, a non-load-break isolating switch, and a fixed-mounted vacuum contactor (plug-in type optional for 12SVC400). The enclosure is designed for front access, allowing the equipment to be located with the rear of the equipment close to a non-combustible wall.
