Littelfuse: KSC XA Tactile Switches Deliver Soft Sound Tactile Feedback for Enhanced User Experience

KSC XA Tactile Switches

April 10, 2025

Littelfuse, Inc. has recently highlighted the KSC XA Series Soft Sound Tactile Switches as a key solution for applications requiring quiet, reliable tactile feedback.

Designed for surface-mount technology (SMT) applications, the KSC XA switches deliver an innovative soft sound for a quieter user experience, an extended cage for potting compatibility, and a high actuation force option for precise, deliberate operation. These characteristics make the KSC XA switches ideal for industries where noise reduction, durability, and reliability are critical, such as automotive, medical, industrial, and premium consumer electronics. The KSC XA series offers engineers an innovative combination of soft tactile feedback, compact size, and high environmental resistance. With an IP67 rating for protection against dust and moisture and a robust hard actuator design, the KSC XA switches ensure long-lasting performance in harsh environments. Their extended cage design supports encapsulation with potting material, providing additional protection against corrosion and environmental stress.

Key Features and Benefits
• Soft sound: Enhances the user experience, particularly in noise-sensitive environments.
• Extended cage: Enables potting compatibility for increased protection against harsh conditions.
• High actuation force (up to 9.6 N): Delivers precise and intentional button presses, reducing accidental activations.
• IP67-rated sealing: Ensures durability against moisture, dust, and debris.
• Long operational life: Up to 1 million cycles for exceptional reliability.
• J-bend terminations: Supports efficient SMT assembly, streamlining high-volume production.
• Compact size (6.2 x 6.2 x 4.9 mm): Ideal for applications with limited space.
• Environmentally friendly: Low-halogen, RoHS, and REACH compliant, compatible with lead-free reflow soldering processes.

“Building on the success of the versatile KSC tactile switch family, the KSC XA series introduces a new standard for soft sound and potting compatibility,” said Laurent Kubat, Europe R&D Director, EBU Switches and Sensors R&D, Littelfuse, Inc. “These tactile switches provide reliable, noise-reduced operation in a compact footprint, making them well-suited for demanding applications such as automotive steering wheels, smart home devices, and electrosurgical instruments. By offering a durable and versatile solution, the KSC XA reduces the need for frequent replacements and ensures long-term performance for our customers.”

Target Markets and Applications

The KSC XA tactile switches are designed to meet the needs of diverse applications, including:

• Automotive: Steering wheel buttons, dashboard controls, window switches, and seat controls.
• Medical: Diagnostic equipment, patient-controlled devices, and monitors.
• Industrial: Factory automation, test and measurement devices, and smart meters.
• High-End Consumer Electronics: Headphones, premium remote controls, smart home devices, and ergonomic products.

The KSC XA series sets a benchmark for tactile switches by combining the quiet operation that users prefer with robust environmental performance. Its ability to enhance the user experience while meeting the demands of rugged applications makes it a key part of the Littelfuse/C&K portfolio.
